Scenario

You are the Emperor of Carambola. The nation bends to your every decision. But beware: your advisors are watching your every move.

Carambola is an experiment in adapting concepts from social psychology to implement algorithms and objects for augmented NPC's decision making functions.

How to Play

Controls

At the bottom of the screen, you will see two action cards that you can select from. These are your choices for an executive decision. When you click on one, you'll advance to the next round, where you'll see a set of new cards and your advisors' reactions to your choice.


On the left side of the screen, you'll see a timeline. It fills up as you select actions. You can use this to quickly scroll back and forth between your past actions, in case you want to review.

How the Characters Work

Don't read this section if you want to find out for yourself!


Advisors care about three things: the values that your actions represent, the amount that they trust each other, and the amount that they trust you. If you pick actions that go against their values, they'll dislike you for it. If you pick actions that go along with their values, they'll like you for it.


So far so good.


The trick to playing this game is paying attention to the characters relationships. Let's say you have two advisors, Nastasya and Dmitri. Suppose Nastasya and Dmitri both trust you, but Nastasya hates Dmitri. In this case, Dmitri trusting you may not be in your favor! Because Nastasya hates Dmitri, she might decide to vote for your dethronement just to spite Dmitri.

So, be careful!
